Ice Cubes in Glasses
on the eve of war
i speak to a man
i have known
for over half
my life
i tell him
what it is
to fill the ice cube tray
then spill it
when i'm halfway
to the freezer
puddles form
on unmopped linoleum
edges running
curving
undefined
meanwhile
80,000
50,000
40,000
(depending on the media outlet)
russian troops
line an eastern border
i think of july
kyiv
dnipro
pyrohiv
the buckwheat crop
the wattle fence
my bare feet
in my ancestors' shadows
