In All of an Orchid
in all of an orchid lie bleached bones of time
the orchid wants, the orchid loves, and so it grieves as well
here lies the trouble with small things and change
with every inch towards the sun
its yearning roots pull deeper into soil
and soon, and suddenly, and all too slowly
the flower is dust and those petals are sprouted anew.
in all of an orchid are moments of life
that fray the stem as it grows
here lies the weakness of those born too swiftly in joy
when love, cradled carefully like a piece of fractured glass,
can come with its own punishment
can cut new dawns through clay of past lives
as sculptors cut glory from stone.
in all of an orchid are traumas of truth
are unyielding mists and encompassing twists
that bloom when air breathes too thick
or light too brightly shines onto memories lost
smashed, sheered, imbued with new meaning
the orchid is now a rose
and still it is stuck in the ground
