Likes: Into Owls
The dating app guides him to a bar
where he finds her eating pretzel sticks
from a bowl, each one vanishing
into her mouth like a thin tail.
He leads with his passion and renders
songs, hoo-ing and scolding from great
horned to elf, and when she doesn't
get up from the table and leave
stammering about an early night,
but nods and looks at him with big
staring eyes, he thinks the app's
algorithm has worked at last. Later,
in her apartment, he watches her
glide without a sound through squares
of moonlight on the bedroom floor as she
takes off her dress. He kisses the pinion
feathers inked on her arms and tenses
for the moment her hands will take him
as a small creeping thing is taken
from a grassy verge, in the blue dark,
when it supposed it was alone.
