AJ Donley graduated from the University of Minnesota, Morris in 2018 with a degree in psychology and English. She seeks to explore the human psyche and illustrates what she sees with poetry. AJ plays with form, language, and imagery in an attempt to interpret what she experiences. Poetry is a practice and is never complete; just as the mind is subjective and dynamic, so, too, is her writing. She is on a journey with no destination in the hopes of glimpsing something delicious.
nightmare
some nights i am
sleep / i am
shiver / i am
quiver
skin of arrows
porcupine papillae
slice against the night / i am
dagger sheath full
of empty
fight dark with dark
hands brazened
braced invisible
pillow case punching bag / i am
wake / i am
lose
against fight with the night / i am
bed sheet tears / i am
sweat stained quilt / i am
cocoon / i am
glass cracked open / i am
window pane snow / i am
wake
without respite
nightmare carved into caulking
in the waste-band of my shorts
