La Isla Menos
tectonically risen
amid inconstancy
I am
the island
entranced by you-
r enchanting
granted a chance at understanding
my own magic by you-
r heavenly
body floating
ungoverned a banner
in an ocean of possibilities
my heart is swollen with
the promise of you-
r electricity
each wave
completes
something inside the battery between
distal string
unspooling us
in you-
r illimitable
imagination
ascendant cordilleras
singing coquis
into endemicity lifting
my head above the water
reflecting on the emptiness
underneath my feet and sky
without you-
r earthshattering
the very sense of gravity
loosening
who I am from the planet’s grinding teeth
the omphalos
is wading in a scalloped cradle
like Venus adrift
amongst your clouds without Guabancex’s mercy
