Nectar
I reach
for my glass
of sugared plum
soda,
purple
as the color
of blue hour
over water.
A bee drifts
in lazy
steam spirals
towards the stem,
riding the lip
as I slowly take
a sip,
the way
my hand
might ride
the motion
of your throat
in a swallow.
She crawls deftly
towards the surface,
but falls
head over foot
over head over foot
into the drink.
Legends say
bees
are the messengers
of the gods,
so I plunge
my fork
into the juice
and lift her skywards,
and she flits away
with slivered glass
wings
blinking back
at me
like prisms.
